About the School

Classes, retreats and study groups take place at the Vermont Weaving School, located in the old Putney Elementary School, close to the center of Putney. The school is equipped with thirteen looms, mostly floor looms, with a couple of table looms and a wide variety of equipment. There’s plenty of yarn to choose from… different colors, fibers, textures, and a complete library of weaving books.

Weekly Classes

Weekly classes begin in January. These are suitable for beginners and advanced beginners. All equipment provided.

Wed: 11-1:30 (beginning January 20)
Tues: 5-7:30 (beginning January 26)

In case of snow cancellation, class will be extended by one session.

10 weeks, $250 plus $20 materials fee for first project (additional projects will be charged by weight of materials used)

Class Description for Beginning Weaving and Retreats

Although the class is designed for beginners, class size will be small enough to accommodate students at all levels. Participants will learn the basics of weaving and all skills necessary to create a finished piece of fabric, including project planning, setting up and anatomy of the loom, fabric structures and finishing techniques.

In addition, I offer phone and e-mail help to my students, both in finding a suitable loom and also in getting started at home.

Retreats

Come spend a long weekend in Vermont learning how to weave.

Beginning Weaving:
Feb 13, 14, 15

Rag Rug Weaving: April 30, May 1, 2

Cost: $250 including all materials
$25 early bird discount with $75 deposit two weeks before retreat begins.

$425 with two nights lodging at The Putney Inn including breakfast and boxed lunch.

Advanced Beginner/Intermediate

Third Thursday of the month, beginning Jan 21, 10:30am-1:30pm

This is an off-loom class with projects to be finished between classes. You should have a loom and be able to warp it to join us for this class.

Snow dates are one week after class date.

January 21: Color and Weaving (Guest teacher: Susan Rockwell)
February 18: Fabulous Chenille Scarves
March 18: Rag Rugs
April 15: Overshot
May 20: Lace Weaves
June 17: Towel Exchange and Potluck

Cost: $285
**cost of class includes 4 hrs studio time for rag rugs and materials for chenille scarf warp (two scarves, weft not included). Please deduct $25 if you prefer to weave rugs on your own loom and $25 if you prefer to use your own materials for chenille scarves.
